| Synopsis | PSYCHO: (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960, 109 min., 1.85:1, Black & White, Mono) Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose "old dark house" and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No-one knows that better than Janet Leigh, the film's ill-fated heroine who is victimised in the now-notorious "shower scene". Vera Miles, Martin Balslam, John Gavin and John McIntire co-star in Hitchcock's most compelling and terrifying film. Screenplay by Joseph Stefano. PSYCHO II: (Richard Franklin, 1983, 108 min., 1.85:1, Stereo) In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock shocked audiences around the world and made screen history with his Gothic horror masterpiece, Psycho. Now, 22 years later, the Bates Motel is back in business and screams of terror are once again being heard as the long-awaited sequel, Psycho II, comes to the screen. Anthony Perkins, who starred as Norman Bates, and Vera Miles, who played the sister of the shower murder victim, recreate their memorable roles from the original. In addition, movie buffs will be heartened to know that the producer of the film was Hitchcock's first assistant director in Psycho and the director is a serious Hitchcock scholar. The result is a movie that the New York Daily News has called "a winner". PSYCHO III: (Anthony Perkins, 1986, 89 min., 1.85:1, Stereo) Norman Bates is back! He's alive and well, and living with his mother at Bates Motel. 'Psycho III' a psychological thriller, is the second sequel to Hitchcock's masterpiece of terror and suspense starring Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates. Tracy is an investigative reporter who arrives at Bates Motel hoping to interview Norman for a story about insanity pleas in murder trials. Despite the town's pro-Norman sympathies, she smells a story in the disappearance of Mrs Spool, a waitress who worked with Norman at the local diner...And as more people go missing, she begins to wonder whether it is mere coincidence or whether Norman really is up to his old tricks again! PSYCHO IV - THE BEGINNING: (Mick Garris, 1990, 1.85:1, Stereo) If you have ever wondered what really happened to Norman's mother, PSYCHO IV gives you the opportunity to discover the truth! We can now have a grisly insight into how young Norman (Henry Thomas) came to commit the ultimate crime - matricide. But the film doesn't stop there - it also brings us bang up to date with Norman apparently plotting yet another horrifying murder. Anthony Perkins reprises his role as the adult Norman with Olivia Hussey starring as the catalytic Norma Bates. | |
