| Synopsis | Set during April 1910 in the desert landscape of the Brazilian badlands, the film focuses on a destructive, painful tradition of revenge killings. Tonho (Rodrigo Santoro), the middle son of the Breves family, is ordered by his father (Jose Dumont) to avenge the death of his older brother, the victim of an age-old feud between two families over the ownership of land. Tonho knows that if he carries out his fathers wish and follows the regions strict code of vengeance, he is likely to meet the same tragic fate as his older brother. Distressed by the prospect of death and urged on by his younger brother Pacu (Ravi Ramos Lacerda), Tonho begins to question the logic of the tradition of violence. As he summons the courage to defy his father, a beautiful woman from a travelling circus crosses his path. What new perspective will this alluring stranger bring to Tonhos dilemma? Will she offer him a way out? | |
